Lunch and unload large suitcases
travel to government building to meet mayor, And the heifer director for county, and home stay family
Family lives far away at a pension by a pond
They have family business similar to bed and breakfast
Father hunts and has many antlers, boar tusks and skins
Son is Alex, Whose 18 th birthday is today. Known as " little brother Alex" from last year.
Home stay with Florin, Skye, and Jessica
Mother is very nice also
Alex's friend ate and talked with us
We discussed movies, face book, food,tv, school
The friend wants to be a doctor and will go to a different Timisoara school. His father is from Syria and is a doctor . He may want to be a gynecologist
Alex may do political science or international relations
He says he will see us Saturday but tomorrow we will help clean barn and milk cows, and clean under small pine trees
Romanians are all very friendly to each other
Florin talks easily to the home stay family
The boys said in brag ( nearby city) everyone knows each other and says hello
On tv it mentioned current event of 13 year old boy who is most wanted thief
Professor Russell and Ebner should visit tomorrow
Dinner was chicken liver and potatoes and blackberry creeps for desert
Ferian taught us a card game: red dog

May 18
Wake up at 7:20 breakfast was eggs bread honey bologna cheese tomato
Drove with the father- to the farm
Milk cow, barn had 2 cows one horse " blondie" one cow pregnant and had red on tail to protect from bad luck
Milked the other cow
Was shown rabbits that were raised for food but not fur
Walked back to pension with rake, took pictures
Explored down the road with their 2 dogs
Came back and waited and explored
Pulled weeds after a man mowed
Other colleagues raked cut grass
Bagged grass
Played two Romanian card games
Played spot it card game- Jessica's
Had lunch- soup meatballs of pork and cow, mashed potatoes, and cookies
Tsuica with crushed fruit this time
-less intense as pure Tsuica but still strong
Nap- planned to walk to city
Clean barn tomorrow morning
Visit city and farms in mountain
Went to take nap buuuut after about ten minutes Florin came in and said another home stay group was here and wanted to go into the mountains with their father to pick up a shepherd... Long and very bumpy
The dad and shepherd liked to scare the group of students in the back of the truck by driving fast on the muddy road up high on the mountain. When we got there the shepherd we brought traded spots with one there. They have 3 month shifts with the sheep and dogs
We hiked further and visited the sheep
Returned and drove back to the pension with relieved shepherd
Lots of pictures and fast driving
The dad put the window cleaner and unintentionally sprayed the students in back and they all yelled
When we got back we all had a Tsuica shot and played spot it with the other group
When they left we played remi and I won the first round( after a practice round)!
Dinner was corn meal pudding pot roast with pork and pork fat chunks
Pears for desert were pink inside
Watched music television
Many American songs and Romanian artists singing in English
May 19
Assorted breakfast with homemade sausages, cheese, honey, tomatoes, cucumbers, and cabbage- garlic type spread
Walked to barn in Boots and milked cow again cleaned the "Adrian Brody" barn
Visited his farm and saw pig and chickens
Walked to town but store was closed
Ebner, Russell, and Alex visit while we played remi
Snack then tadpole removal with little brother Alex
Watched loggers who will transport wood to Hungary
Samale and soup with chicken for lunch at 2 leftover birthday cake
After lunch we had a 20 minute break
We then hiked up a mountain across the street from the pension where we stayed
It was pretty muddy!
Jessica and the dogs would run ahead
We got to a small farm where we met a couple in their 70 s
They were very nice
We met their two giant bulls who the man said were like his children
The wife lets milk on of the two cows
She can only milk with one hand but her husband can milk with two hands
We went inside and they bottled the milk for us to take and boil
We drank Tsuica and the man told us about their children: they have twin granddaughters, they have an ill son who has the brain of a 12 year old, but could speak some english because of movies, they told us they have been married for 45 years and we clapped for them

We had to draw because of the rain

The man played a reed- flute for us he was very good! In communist times vata de jos had an orchestra and he played a bigger flute that we will see Monday
They told us the marriage traditions :

We tried to leave when to Coocoo bird called and got a group picture and said goodbye in the traditional manner the man kissed my hand an the woman and I kissed cheek
It rained again so we we went back inside and more stories more Suica
We left for real and had a slippery trip back down the mountain
Florian got vey dirty from falling
And we all had fun

May 20
Slept in until ten
Shower
Breakfast wieners and mustard and bread with sour cherries
Fishing! Eleven small carp
There was Jessica, and two other men fishing
During that time twosome cut with sythe and raked hay or grass
Lunch was chicken, peppers/ tomato mix, mashed potatoes and the layer cookies again
We will have a carnage ride later
When they got here we got into the wagon, which had a hole in the flor so I was careful not to drop something
We were son off down the road, towards king's road and were given a guided tour by Alex and Cecero
We passed areas where we were told gold was Mined and other mineral mines
We were amazed he predicted the rain by saying three was a breeze
We stopped and walked shortly into the woods to see a mining entrance
We were told it went 40 kilometers
Back on the carriage we continued the tour down a road with a name that starts with t
We passed a cabin( Alex pronounced Cobain)
In communist times it was used to house lumberjacks but now everything inside has been stolen

We eventually turned and used a sythe to cut grass for the rabbits
Alex taught us how
You have to slide he blade parallel and on the ground
It is very sharp and to clean the blad Alex said his grandpa used a chunk of cut grass
When we started to ride back it began to rain
We stopped under a tree by a cabin and then tried to go further when the rain died down
But it rained again and he had blondie gallop, getting us all muddy
We did not mind though. We were on an adventure!
Alexe's dad drove by, but we wanted to continue the adventure
We gave him Jessica's bag of electronics, but I kept my camera
Jessica said he was the nicest cop ever
We sat under the wagon tarp for a while and continued our journey home
We got even mor muddy
Alex said to put our hands out to feel the hot water splashing off the road after the rain
We got back and got pictures with the farmer and blondie

May 21
Today we will go back into vata de jos to meet everyone and clean a river
Then we will go to a music
We the cleaned the river then ate soup,
New homestay "penor"
Rooming with Adela
Walked with Adela Josie and Lenore to festival and got cotton candy and present for mom
Back, shower, dinner : and banana
Back to festival
Tried beer,wine, more beer, coconut pastry
Went with Skye to walk and then sat and listened to music
We received mugs with a mayor candidate picture on them
Walked back
I will have wifi for the next few days :)
